LED screenfor virtual prduction, XR and film display

Are we to witness the end of the green-screen era? A silent revolution is taking place on film and TV sets, where XR and Film display technology powers virtual production, enabling productions to create immersive and dynamic sets and backgrounds, based on a simple LED panel instead of elaborate and costly set designs.

xR Stages LED screen for virtual production

xR Stages

xR stages use LED walls, floors, and optional ceiling displays to build immersive digital environments that react to camera movement and real-time content. This helps production teams reduce physical set construction while keeping actors inside a visible virtual scene. For studio walls that need clean splicing, flexible cabinet sizes, and stable indoor operation, the iBand plus indoor fixed installation LED display supports flat, curved, and cube-style screen shapes for different XR stage layouts.

LED in Film virtual production display

LED in Film

LED in film production replaces traditional green screen workflows with realistic digital backgrounds shown directly on LED walls. Directors can shoot scenes with controlled lighting, visible set context, and fewer post-production fixes. For close camera work where pixel detail, 16:9 format, and smooth playback matter, the iDisc indoor fine pixel pitch LED display helps present sharper virtual backgrounds for film sets, broadcast spaces, and studio shooting environments.

Virtual productions XR LED display

Virtual Productions

Virtual productions rely on LED screens, camera sync, color management, and video processing to keep digital scenes natural on camera. The page also highlights 3D LUT color workflow and processor compatibility for better color correction during film production. For virtual production studios that need stronger on-camera performance, lower surface reflection, and high-end image control, the iX-COB & SMD LED Display gives production teams a protected indoor LED option for demanding XR and film display setups.

Specification guide

How to Choose an LED Display for XR Studio Production

We plan your LED stage as part of the complete imaging chain, aligning the screen, camera, lens, processor and synchronization settings before we confirm the specification.

01

Pixel Pitch and Shooting Distance

We select the pixel pitch around your closest camera position, lens, sensor resolution and required background detail. We also check the wider camera setup because a tighter pitch alone does not remove every on-camera artifact.

02

Refresh Rate and Scan Configuration

We match refresh rate and scanning behavior with your frame rate and shutter settings, then review the result through the production camera instead of relying on one specification.

03

Moire and Reflection Control

We review pixel structure, focus, camera angle, surface finish and distance to control moire and reflections before we recommend a cabinet.

04

Low-Brightness Grayscale and Color

We test shadow detail, skin tones, color temperature and the 3D LUT workflow at the brightness levels you plan to use during filming.

05

Processing and Synchronization

We confirm processor capacity, receiving cards, resolution, Genlock and render output before we approve your wall, floor and ceiling configuration.

Virtual Productions &XR Stages

Event organizers are looking to invest in hybrid event platforms to position their business. Market data supports this view, and small conferences and virtual meetings must fill the gap. The shift to organizing immersive regular events will be very slow. Similar technology, powered by XR and Film display, is also used to create immersive video environments for broadcasting. This XR and Film display replaces the traditional green screen element of the virtual studio, allowing the presenter and audience to see and interact with the content around them.

LED in Film & Broadcast

This new and groundbreaking virtual production methodology is based on shooting films and series on a stage surrounded by massive XR and Film display LED walls displaying dynamic digital sets, with the ability to react to and manipulate this digital content in real time during live production. Using this LED wall, floor, and optional ceiling, the configuration is scalable to any desired space. Using a virtual background can not only reduce the costs of on-location shoots and post-production time but also boost the performance of the actors involved.

4K LED video processors

Our VX Studio mode and EX series can be used for the Led Wall and for the (none-reflective) Floor display that is fully adjusted for Virtual Production / XR and compatible with the Brompton system.

Advance color management for you

Gain full control of your LED screen by importing 3D LUT. 3D LUTs helps you to remap colours that allow advanced colour correction which are commonly used in film production. You can import this directly into your Brompton Tessera LED processor, in order to combine your LED screen into color management workflow. This feature is only allowed to Brompton’s Tessera SX40 and Tessera S8 LED processors.

Premier choice LED products for Virtual Sets

So why do the JR Visual LED panels have such an outstanding performance in this XR and Film display setting? Intensive testing and tweaking tell us, this is not down to one factor, but a combination of factors. Certain is that the combination of the LED screen and the processing and syncing of these with the camera, is crucial to get good results. This needs to be done for every setup. JR Visual LED screens work with high-end components, and state of the art driver IC’s, which makes all the difference for the on-camera performance.

Project questions

XR Studio Production FAQs

We answer the questions our customers most often raise when planning the camera, screen and control system for an XR stage.

What pixel pitch is suitable for an XR studio production LED wall?

We select pixel pitch by reviewing your closest camera distance, lens, sensor resolution and required background detail. We recommend a camera test before we confirm the final screen specification.

How can an LED wall reduce moire and flicker on camera?

We assess moire and flicker across the pixel pitch, scan configuration, refresh rate, camera shutter, focus and shooting distance. We test these settings together instead of judging the display by one specification.

What refresh rate is required for virtual production?

We match refresh rate to your camera frame rate, shutter settings and processor configuration. We confirm the LED display and control system with your planned shooting setup.

Is COB or SMD LED more suitable for an XR studio?

We compare COB and SMD around your camera distance, reflection control, structure and maintenance needs. COB can provide a protected surface for close-range viewing, while SMD products may offer different cabinet, brightness and installation options.

Can the LED wall, floor and ceiling operate as one system?

Yes. We can plan the LED wall, floor and ceiling as one XR environment by coordinating the screen structure, video distribution, processor capacity and synchronization system.

Which video processors are compatible with the LED display?

We confirm processor compatibility by checking the receiving cards, processor model, resolution, color workflow and synchronization requirements against your camera configuration.

What information is needed for an XR studio quotation?

To prepare your XR studio quotation, we ask for your studio dimensions, required screen surfaces, viewing and shooting distances, camera model, frame rate, screen shape, installation location and target completion date.
